I’m not completely into this cat, but the streets seem to respect French Montana. His debut album Excuse My French drops next Tuesday but leaked a little early. Guest spots are thorough with Scarface, Raekwon, Ne-Yo, The Weeknd, Rozay, Drake, Weezy, Nicki, Diddy, and Snoop. I probably won’t, but you can snatch it up down below. Ville Valo is looking like a stretched out Smeagol in the new video from H.I.M. The title track off Tears On Tape is not very good, but I heard another tune “All Lips Go Blue” that was a little more true to their better sound. They’ve always been more geared towards the female fans. At least Valo was a hunk back then. Someone get this man some Leipäjuusto to munch on.

Ghostface Killah was quiet for a short minute, but an unexpected new project with Adrian Younge is his latest venture. I thought him and Doom were supposed to have a full album together, but I’ll take this. He gets a few Wu-Tang guest spots, including INS, Cappadonna, U-God, and Masta Killah. That is some gangsta, evil artwork. Check out the new video for “Rise Of The Ghostface” with an appearance from RZA. Also super evil.
Major Lazer! Been waiting for this one too. Diplo and his crew released Free The Universe today officially, I think. I am shocked that “Original Don” didn’t make the album, even if it is old as fuck by now. Features include Santigold, Elephant Man, Ezra from Vampire Weekend, Bruno Mars, Tyga, Wyclef Jean, and a bunch of others. Mad Decent has done it again. Go buy this joint.

Tool released Undertow on April 6th, 1993, which was 20 years ago yesterday. The band has stayed true to their original sound and visuals that grabbed the attention of music fans decades ago and who continue to support the always unusual Maynard James Keenan and company. Their shows still sell out instantly, even when not releasing new music and given Maynard’s odd stage presence. Undertow had two singles, “Prison Sex” and “Sober”, which were successful in the mainstream with play on MTV and rock radio. Take a trip back to the early 90′s with a classic metal release.
Due out on April 16th, Mosquito has leaked a couple weeks in advance. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are always sure to not disappoint and with the first leak, “Sacrilege”, they blew me away. That cover art is some weird shit. I’m about to give it a thorough listen now. Happy fucking Easter kids.

Plenty of sites are buzzing about the follow up album from Kvelertak. SPIN has named it as the first Essential Metal Album of 2013. The Norwegian metalheads toured around the states last year and my record store guy was singing their praises like crazy, saying they had a Refused type feel in their live show. I was sold. It’s not for the faint of heart and is sure to make thy ears bleed. Meir was released this past Tuesday on Roadrunner Records. Keeping the scene alive!

Lil Tunechi is back with another album. I Am Not A Human Being II will be in stores this Tuesday, but you can download the leak a couple days in advance. I forgot this is a legit release, not a mixtape. Guest spots from Drake, Trina, Juicy J, Future, Gunplay, Soulja Boy, and of course, 2 Chainz on “Rich As Fuck”.
It pains me to say it, but I haven’t heard a single good thing come from The Strokes this time around. That said, I still want to give Comedown Machine a shot. The early leaks were completely unexciting. I had hoped that the new album would redeem the New Yorkers for the super disappointing Angles. Let’s see what they have to offer for 2013.
Producer Harry Fraud has been showing suckers that his beat game is on point the past year or two. His work with French and Action Bronson has been generating the most buzz in my own mind, but now we get to hear him team up with a whole squad of MC’s. Check out his new mixtape Adrift. Plenty of noteworthy guest spots. Of course Bronson sets the shit off right.
Bad Books had a pretty rad show last week at World Cafe Live, but a “Where Have You Been?” encore would have really been choice. I honestly didn’t get to give II much of a listen until about a week ago. In searching for some sort of footage or download for the track “Friendly Advice”, I stumbled upon this amazing acoustic rendition by Andy and Kevin. At first, I’m sitting there wondering why Devine even bothered to show up, but then the dual vocals got going. Beautiful. Here’s a stream of the original recording.
Zero Boys were a hardcore band out of Indiana, likely the only decent thing in hardcore to come out of Indiana for that matter. Their album Vicious Circle is one of the best full lengths that the genre has to offer. While this track definitely has more a rock and roll sound to it, tunes like “Amphetamine Addiction” and the album’s title track stay more true the hardcore sound. For some reason though, “Livin’ In The 80′s” is my go-to. Definitely a jukebox jam for the nights you’re getting pickled at the bar.
