Made In America 2013 lineup

Fuck yes. Just when you thought it was going to be necessary to travel to Chi-town to catch Nine Inch Nails and Queens Of The Stone Age at Lollapalooza this summer, Made In America come out of nowhere with a sick lineup of diverse proportions. Sure. Jay-Z isn’t listed as performing, but I’ll guarantee he makes an appearance during the Beyonce headlining performance. Plenty of dance parties with Calvin Harris, deadmau5, Wolfgang, and Nero. The hip hop scene will be all you could ask for as well with Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Wiz, and 2 Chainz. Throw in Empire Of The Sun and you have the must see summer festival Philly has been blessed with for 2013. Tickets officially on sale next Wednesday.

Radio 104.5 announces 2013 Summer Block Party series – NJNews

Cold-War-Kids-3

Radio 104.5 announced their annual Summer Block Party series that takes place down at The Piazza in Norther Liberties each year. These free shows usually bring out a whole gang of people who have no idea who the bands playing are but want to enjoy some new music and outdoor drinking. More so the outdoor drinking. I’ll definitely want to be in attendance for the July 13th show that includes Cold War Kids and Bad Books. I’m surprised they wouldn’t space those two bands out considering they are the only real recognizable names other than Metric. More info to come for the final two dates. I hope this is something that continues for years to come. Hit the Read More section for the full schedule.

Diplo Presents: Trap Hawk Down (Video)

Diplo - Trap Hawk Down

Back on January 20th, Diplo set out on a 4-show tour that took place all in one night, proving he’s the hardest working white dude in the music biz. Him & his team filmed the night where he hit Baltimore, Philly, Atlantic City, and NYC. I heard the show at Sound Garden Hall was wild. I bet attendees weren’t too happy in AC though, where he kept his set to only 20 minutes but got to peep some asses that were “made in laboratories”.  I wanna see some of the lost footage from between each show. Check out Trap Hawk Down and hit the read more section to download the songs featured in the 7-minute film.

Dan Deacon

Who wants to get all fucked up on drugs and check out Dan Deacon get super insane at the Kimmel Center next Friday? The Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, or PIFA, returns once again for a Spring celebration of the City’s art scene. Deacon makes music that only the craziest of individuals can listen to on a normal day, but pop a couple Molly jawns, and I think I could get into this combustion of noise. Who’s in? Look at those kids going ape-shit. Tickets on sale now.

John Nolan solo show at The Barbary tonight is canceled – NJNews

John Nolan 2013

John Nolan was getting back on his grind doing a short solo tour, performing acoustic versions of songs from Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run, and his short-lived run at a solo career. Unfortunately, the singer-songwriter was in a car accident and has canceled his show scheduled for tonight at The Barbary. Very disappointing news. I was looking forward to hearing some of those classic tunes and most likely a cover or two. Whether it would have been a Brand New track or a Bieber cover, he usually works some sort of surprise in there. Like this Elliott Smith gem, for your viewing pleasure. Hope everything is okay, John.

The 6th Annual Roots Picnic lineup announced – NJNews

6th-roots-picnic-2013

Questlove took to Instagram to let his followers take a look at the official lineup for The 6th Annual Roots Picnic. It’s back to a one-day event and it pains me to say this, it’s super disappointing. The Roots Picnic has been good every year, blending genres with some big names and rising stars of hip hop, rock, and electronic music. I mean this year’s lineup is still attend worthy, but there’s no Wu-Tang or TV On The Radio. I guess Gary Clark Jr. and Premier will be the highlights, obviously along with The Roots Crew. I’m sure it’ll still be a blast down at the Festival Pier on June 1st. Check out last year’s recap video.

Eagles hire Chip Kelly – NJNews

Posted in New Jawn Exclusive, Philly, Sports with tags , , on January 16, 2013 by New Jawn

dAfter 2 excruciating weeks the Philadelphia Eagles have got their man.  They interviewed 12 potential candidates and they were running out of options.  Everything changed this morning when Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman decided to give Chip Kelly total control over personnel and draft picks.  Chip gladly reconsidered the offer and accepted.

Eagles’ fans should be happy with their new coach as he will turn the most predictable offense in the NFL into an exciting product.  Chip runs a fast paced offense that has been admired by Bill Belichick and many other NFL coaches.  We can say goodbye to fat Andy and his workbelt and welcome in the visor as Kelly’s go to head piece.  Kelly is 49 years old and single, what does this mean?  Kelly has no distractions in is life and he can focus on football unlike our previous coach who’s family drama got the best of him.

I’m excited for his draft picks, the possibility of returning to the Kelly Green jerseys and an explosive offense that rarely huddles.  His plane lands at 7:37pm tonight and I’m considering taking some signs down to PHL.

ACTION BRONSON AT THE BLOCKLEY

Come out and see your favorite MC that can whip up a mean burger over in University City tonight. Action Bronson returns to Philly with the locals, Ground Up, at The Blockley. The show isn’t sold out just yet, but prices on tickets continue to go up. I’m catching one of them jars this time.

DJ Baby Eagle – Booty Bassix Vol. 2 (Cloud, MP3)

Posted in Hip Hop, Indie, MP3, Philly, Stream with tags , on November 17, 2012 by New Jawn

About a month back some beer-slingers from Broad Street Bullies Pub went deep into the heart of Fishtown and discovered a new talent emerging from the North Side of Philadelphia.  DJ Baby Eagle aka Baby E aka Dae Dae was laying some shit down for 50 drunk hipsters and hot damn they were enjoying themselves.  His shit is Crunk OG Funk derived from the classics (peep samples).  We got to thinking that this kid would murder the dance floor @BulliesPub and the bachelorettes will soon be swooning.  Baby Eagle would “spike the punch” in this corporate powerhouse we call Xfinity Live!  #twerk # babybear #babyeagle.

Cassidy disses Meek Mill (Cloud, MP3)

Posted in Hip Hop, MP3, Philly, Stream with tags on November 16, 2012 by New Jawn

Cassidy must be bitter that Meek Mill has turned into the biggest Philly rapper in the game right now. The two exchanged some words on Twitter the other night, then Cass released this new track, “The Diary Of A Hustler”. I wish Pac was around to slap the shit out of current rappers. Beef pops off on Twitter. That’s so lame. Cassidy can probably kill Meek lyrically, but Meek could crush this dude with his wallet at this point. Ease up, baby boy.

Taking Back Sunday cover Straylight Run (Video)

Posted in Alternative, Concerts, Philly, Video on November 14, 2012 by New Jawn

Taking Back Sunday kicked off their three night run in Philly last night at the Electric Factory. The house went nuts when they started to play Tell All Your Friends tracks a few songs into their set. The 10 year anniversary tour of their debut album must be going pretty well if they were able to sell out three nights in Philly. I have to say, the show was great, but why weren’t we treated to this little gem? “Existentialism On Prom Night” is such a great song, still to this day. I bet Nolan was extremely pumped about Adam giving much-deserved respect to Straylight Run.

Beanie Sigel – Batcave Radio Cypher (Video)

Right before Beans got locked up he drove his Crown Vic, with the spotlight still on it, up to N. 3rd St. and spit some serious shit @BatcaveStudio…..guns, pills, syrup, duckin’ cops, incarceration.  #Greatjob beans.

Peedi Rock is getting ready to drop Crakk Files 5 and he reached out to the king of Brick City for a verse.  Crakk Files 4 was kinda dope with 3 tracks I still pump on the regg.  I’m really hoping for some progress on his new jawn.

Rick Ross performs @Villanova Homecoming (Video)

Villanova?  I gotta lotta homies that graduated from this institution including New Jawn’s own @Finn_Laden but I expected a more conservative artist to rock homecoming at the whitest school in the Big 5.  Don’t get it fucked up, I’m not hating and I think its great that Rozay can fuck the Pavillion stage up.  They can afford to pay the boss when 75% of their alumni are still drowning in debt.

NJ Throwback – Rocafella Freestyles 2001 (Video)

Posted in Hip Hop, MP3, Philly, Video on October 30, 2012 by New Jawn

Alotta crazy shit happened in 2001 but the major event in my life was when all the members of Rocafella Records got drunk inside Hot 97 studios and spit (collectively) the hottest freestyles of all time.  I remember leaving my crib in North Philly and the guy that usually sold crack and pills was holding a rack of CD’s…..

Drug Dealer – “You like rap white bull?”

Me – “You damn right my nigg, I’m only white on the outside…lemme get 3.”

Future feat. Lil Wayne – Turn On the Lights (Cloud, MP3)

Posted in Hip Hop, MP3, Philly, Stream on October 29, 2012 by New Jawn

This young track is about 60 days old and I forgot to post it in September.  The in-house DJ at Broad Street Bullies Pub (Like the Page) keeps playing it at last call and I cream my pantelones every time.  Smooth as hood love beat with Future and Weezy spittin’ decent auto-tune on it.  Church

The Black Bar Mitzvah is a swag mixer and Ross spits heat on young bull Chief Keef’s track.  Dude has an 8 car garage and still calls a cab for them hoes in the morning.   Great shots of Meek and Game spittin’ licks in post vid.
