Frank Ocean drops some visuals for my favorite track off channel Orange. As expected, the new video contains footage of Frank traveling the world. I hope he doesn’t wait years to drop another album. His genius should be a relative frequent gift.

With the title track from his new album, The Dream once again ensures that he won’t get much radio friendly play. He’s definitely the biggest freak in the R&B game since Kellz. If IV Play is half as good as this early taste, we’re in for a treat once again. I say it every time, The Dream is top three in the present R&B game. Hey Franky and Abel.
Mayer Hawthorne gets a little funky on a track that shouts out just about every trendy drug out there in his new love anthem “Designer Drug”. Not his finest work, but it is a change of pace from the usual Motown jacking Mayer tracks. It definitely sounds like he spent a good deal of time with Chromeo on this track.
A little late on this unreleased track from the channel Orange sessions, but never too late when it comes to Franky Baby. With his rookie year, Frank Ocean proved that he’s doing big things by taking home two Grammys a few weeks back. I hope we can expect some new music from Frank soon. Until then, I’ll take some leftovers. Why did everyone hate on his performance too by the way? Shit was dope.
Solange has Dev Hynes on tour with her right now and has been playing shows to promote her new EP, True. Solange has been professing her love for 90′s R&B music recently and proved that she likes the classics when she brought Oliver Sim from The xx out to cover the Nicole Wray track “Make It Hot”. Great interpretation of the sick Timbaland beat by Dev and the backing band.
Dig this track heavy. I’m sure the fact that Dev Hynes wrote and produced it is playing a heavy role in that, but Solange seems to heavy a nice throwback R&B style going on anyway. Peep Dev and his new protege do some sychronized dancing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, performing her single “Losing You”
UPDATE: The full Trilogy has leaked, but it’s just the three earlier mixtapes from The Weeknd, plus three unreleased tracks. Grab all three here. This kid got talent.
The exciting R&B upcomer that isn’t Frank Ocean is ready to release his first full length album in stores. The Weeknd drops Trilogy next Tuesday. There are two bonus tracks that leaked this week. Check out both “Twenty Eight” and “Valerie”. These are radio rips for now. CD quality links to follow.
Ne-Yo will release his fifth studio album a week from today, but grab the leak now. R.E.D. doesn’t have many features on it, but Ne-Yo doesn’t need all that to deliver a solid album. I would say Year Of The Gentleman is where Ne-Yo peaked, but he still has plenty of good tracks on this one I’m sure.
Ne-Yo enlists a couple of stars that are no strangers to guesting on R&B radio hits. R.E.D. gets released on November 6th. Diddy and Fabolous join Ne-Yo on what could be considered “I Need A Girl 2012″.
I love that artists completely removed from the hip hop industry are recognizing the pure talent of Frank Ocean. Britt Daniel has had many years of success in the rock world with Spoon and his new project Divine Fits recently released a great debut record. Britt and company covered the track “Lost” from channel Orange the other night in Rhoad Island. Thanks to the fan that caught this greatness.
It sounds like Beyonce’s baby sister might have a hit on her hands with “Losing You”. Solange Knowles released her first new single and the track is written by, and produced by, none other than Dev Hynes. Great vibe to this joint. Hopefully the rest of her album is as good. Well done.
Frank Ocean took over TV sets last night with John Mayer performing on SNL. He also dropped this lengthy music video for the track “Pyramids” off channel Orange. Looks like him and Mayer are peoples now. Rad.
Drizzy sings about some lost love in this new R&B joint featuring Dawn Richard. Feeling the beat. It’ll definitely make the next sheets mix. He spits a lackluster verse at the end with a grammar school flow.
Alicia Keys takes a minute off from making ballads to pump out a radio hit with Nicki Minaj. Alicia always delivers on the vocals and it has a super-bassed up beat that Minaj can spit her usually ridiculous rhymes on. Girl On Fire, her new album, will drop in November, but you can expect Alicia and Nicki to perform this track at the upcoming VMA’s. Alicia going for the sexy look these days. Diggin’ that. Swizz approved.
Mariah plots her big comeback to music with some new tracks and signing on to American Idol where she force feed the masses her material like J.Lo did. I love that Rozay brings Meek along for big shit like this. Good look, Boss. The Cloud is just a 30-second snippet. The download is the full track with all the dirty bits.
“Climax” is my favorite R&B track of recent memory (sorry Frank) and it’s not just because of the sick Diplo beat, but also Usher at his best. Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio released a remix today and it was posted on Diplo’s Cloud page. It’s very dubbed-out, but that’s what all the cool kids are into these days I hear.
John Legend covering Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”
Mayer Hawthorne performing “No Strings”
Silversun Pickups performing “Bloody Mary” and “Future Foe Scenarios”
Jack White performing “Seven Nation Army”
Ha! Look at Tyler and Frank gettin’ it in. No homo. This is a bonus track that is, or was, going to be included on the physical copies of Channel Orange. I hear Target is refusing to carry the debut from Frank Ocean because of his last minute decision to release it early on iTunes. Sounds like discrimination to me.
Well that didn’t take very long. Frank Ocean is about to be the biggest new name in music with his debut album Channel Orange. Sure, there is a little media buzz started becuase of his recent news, but let’s not lose focus on the fact this kid can sing like a true G and has every big artist in hip hop wanting to work with him. He stopped by Fallon last night and performed a new track called “Bad Religion”. Download the leaked copy of Channel Orange now before the link is removed and get the physical copy when it hits stores next week. You can also stream some snippets of the album in the Cloud.
