The Late Show with David Letterman didn’t let Hurricane Sandy postpone their episiode last night. The show went on without the audience with Dave hosting Paul Banks debuting a new track off his solo joint Banks. I guarentee that PB switched up the song he was going to perform when he heard about the lack of audience. The album has plenty of catchy jams, but “Young Again” sets the mood right.

The zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead returns tonight for the premiere of season three. If you’re a fan of the show, you remember one of the main characters getting offed just before the finale last year and the brief introduction of Michonne, who is one of the more badass characters from the comic series. From the trailers, we also know that brother Merle is returning this year, minus a hand of course. Writers are taking it to the prison this year since the farm got overrun by Walkers. No spoilers here, just a little hype for the third season of one of the more entertaining series on television. Oh you have Dish? You suck then.
I just watched the complete second season of the Ricky Gervais classic series Extras for the first time in years. Sometimes I take Gervais for granted because now he’s a bit pompous and laughs at his own jokes way too much. That shouldn’t take away from the fact that The Office and Extras are two of the funniest series in television history. Probably the funniest part of the series was when David Bowie stopped by the V.I.P. section and creates an impromptu song about the show’s star Andy Millman. “Little fat man with the pug nose face…” Hilarius shit.
I was going to ruin my run of boycotting Jay Leno since The Hives made an appearance on his show last week and I felt it only fair to share it since those Swedes are fucking awesome. But then, I decided to just post footage of them performing the same song from their show in NYC a few months back. Enjoy “Take Back The Toys” and say fuck you to Jay Leno once again.
The highlight of the BET Awards has been The Cypher the past couple years. A few years back, the one with Lupe, Styles P, and Papoose was fire. And last year, the Shady Records crew killed it. The 2012 ceremony is taking place on October 9th and will be hosted by jokeman Mike Epps. The Cypher lineup has a few already set “teams”, but the other MC’s will be paired up. They better put A$AP and RZA on the same jawn. You know Kosha Dillz will be with RZA no doubt. Check out the selected artists for 2012’s Cyphers.
- West Coast Cypher: Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, YG, Kurupt, DJ Quik, Xzibit and E-40
- Ruff Ryders Cypher: DMX, Eve, Cassidy and Murda Mook
- Grand Hustle Cypher: T.I., B.O.B., Trae Tha Truth, Iggy Azalea and Chip
- Everyone else: A$AP Rocky, Mystikal, Talib Kweli, Boy Jones, Brianna Perry, Childish Gambino, Lil Chuckee, The Kid Daytona, Driicky Graham, Hopsin, Joey Bada$$, K’La, Kosha Dills, Mac Miller, RZA, ScHoolboy Q, Tito Lopez, Angel Haze, and Ab-Soul.
Kara Monaco starred on this year’s 14th season of the reality program Big Brother. Before she tried her hand at winning a half-million on TV, she was a Playmate of the Year, a little fact they failed to mention during her short-lived stay in the BB house. Kara wasn’t shy for the camera, but didn’t enough time to bare it all to her fellow houseguests. Such a shame that viewers didn’t get to see this blonde beauty all summer long, because she definitely looks like she knows how to bend the rules, which always makes for an entertaining season. Maybe we’ll see more of her in the finale.
James Mercer and what he is now calling The Shins stopped by the Australian series Like A Version. Mercer performed a cover tune with “Andrew In Drag”, originally by The Magnetic Fields. That song is kind of twisted, about a friend falling in love with his friend when he sees him dressed as a woman. Very odd choice, James. They also perform “It’s Only Life” off Port Of Morrow.

Rick Ross is out promoting the new album God Forgives, I Don’t. He stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and performed the two lead singles that he leaked months in advance. Go pick up a copy of God Forgives, I Don’t. The hardest working BOSS in hip hop earned your money. And put a Philly head on big time with Meek. Support MMG.

Neck Of The Woods is yet another solid release from Silversun Pickups. They are making the rounds in support of their third full length and stopped by Letterman yesterday. They performed one of my favorite songs out right now, “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)”. Looking forward to seeing SSP at the FireFly Music Festival.
Maybe it’s because I was in my Sunday DVR bag, but HBO had my attention yesterday. While catching up on Game Of Thrones, it crossed my mind that we’ve slept on Emilia Clarke as a NJOTW for way too long. The natural brunette has been going blonde as Daenerys Targaryen since last season of Thrones. While her role this year is focused on being “The Mother of Dragons”, last season she was running around naked with her brother, getting dicked down by the new Conan, and waking up nude after birthing some dragons in a storm of fire. Thrones may not be for everyone, but I’m pretty sure Emilia could spark some interest to most.
Have you been watching the new HBO series Girls? It’s pretty hilarious. It kinda reminds me of Juno-type humor, but much more vulgar. If you think joking around about abortions, STD’s, and sending dick pics all make for top notch comedy, this might be the show for you. The music selections are pretty badass as well. I’ve heard quite a number of songs I dig, but when last night’s episode 5 was going off, I heard this jam for the first time and instantly busted out the Shazam jawn. Check out The Echo Friendly and their single “Same Mistakes”. The official video was posted two weeks ago, so I assume they’re a relatively new band. More research will be required.
Silversun Pickups are making the rounds to promote the release of their third full length Neck Of The Woods. They stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live this week to perform the lead single “Bloody Mary” and another track from the new release named “The Pit”. I’m officially in love with this band. They’ve dropped three albums that are good front to back, or ATM as it’s being called now by the cool kids.
Jack White released Blunderbuss yesterday and if you didn’t already, get out there and pick it up. It’s less twangy than my initial expectations with “Love, Interruption”, which is a good thing. It has its great moments and both tracks he performed on Later…with Jools Holland qualify in that category. Check out his performances of “Sixteen Saltines” and what I have to assume will be the follow-up single, “Freedom at 21″. That’s the track he released a couple of weeks back on a flexi-vinyl via helium balloons. Regardless of the gimmicks, Jack is a legend.
Jack White will release Blunderbuss next Tuesday. He’s been out doing some promotion around the globe and making announcements about headlining different summer festivals. He stopped by De Harald Schmidt Show in Germany yesterday and performed two tracks off his upcoming debut, solo album. Glad it wasn’t just the two we’ve been hearing. He skips “Love Interruption” this time and performs “Sixteen Saltines”, along with a new track “Freedom at 21″. So pumped for Blunderbuss.
