QOTSA stopped by Later with Jools Hollandlast week to perform two new tracks off …Like Clockwork. I can’t get enough of the album leaks. Keep them coming. Album out soon on Matador.
Derriere Force One has made it’s way across the pond and Turbonegro take over NYC tonight at Irving Plaza. The Jugend will be all denimed out and ready to rock to that Deathpunk noise they’ve been waiting for. Tony Sylvester will do his best to convert the Hank lovers. I hope the set isn’t filled with too much Sexual Harassment material. I want to hear the classics.
There are two more songs from …Like Clockwork that found their way on to YouTube over the past couple days. QOTSA seem content with releasing these preview animated videos to help build the buzz around their new album. Yesterday’s track “Kalopsia” features Trent Reznor on supporting vocals. “Keep Your Eyes Pealed” is a typical Queens track that feels a little more like album filler. “Eat Fuck” on the jacket made my day though. GG reigns.
“Swerve City” is yet another great album opener from Deftones. I’d say it’s one of my favorite tracks off Koi, which I really need to give more listens. The official video was released last week. Chino keeps busy between filming videos for these tracks and pumping out the Crosses and Palms new music. Respect the Mexican work ethic. Real recognize real.
If you’re like me, next Saturday isn’t soon enough to hear a taste of some new Kanye West material from his upcoming sixth studio release. G.O.O.D. Music signee Hudson Mohawke, half of TNGHT, premiered a couple tracks from Kanye’s next album during his set at Freeform Festival in Poland. Damn if they don’t sound like some bangers. I have to assume Kanye’s move to an EDM sound played a huge part in scooping up Mohawke as one of his signed producers. Shit sounds bananas. Sound quality not great, but you can feel that bass heavy Yeezy shit coming.
The National will release Trouble Will Find Me next Tuesday and everything that they’ve managed to allow fans to hear is proving to be another great collection from the band. “Sea Of Love” was debuted on Fallon a little ways back and now we have the official video with a rocking little baby boy doing his best air guitar. I’m loving this track.
Just after the last post about Francis Starlight, it seems only right that I share someone else from Les Poisson Rouge. NYC was graced with a solo piano performance from Dev Hynes last Saturday, which luckily for us has had a couple tunes find their way onto the YouTube. Check out Blood Orange cover a track from his close friend Solange and a short pairing with Florence Welch doing that radio track from the Jersey Shore girls’ show. Lucky bastards that knew about this one and got to enjoy the greatness.
Cover of Solange’s “Some Things Never Seem To Fucking Work”
Cover of Icona Pop’s “I Love It” with Florence Welch
I’ll assume the creators of Metalocalypse helped with making the new animated video for Queens Of The Stone Age. “I Appear Missing” has the same brutal imagery as the Adult Swim show. Great to hear another track from …Like Clockwork. Can’t wait for that one to leak.
I’ve been waiting a while for new music from Editors. It feels like forever since In This Light And On This Evening came out. “A Ton Of Love” makes it sound like the band are moving away from the electronic sound that was on their third album to go for a more rock & roll vibe. The Weight Of Your Love comes out on July 1st.
Vampire Weekend posted a pretty great new song today off their upcoming Modern Vampires Of The City album, due out on May 14th. The lyric video keeps your attention throughout. VW have always been able to create a good buzz prior to releasing their albums with a catchy single and “Ya Hey” is no exception. I’m digging this.
Ville Valo is looking like a stretched out Smeagol in the new video from H.I.M. The title track off Tears On Tape is not very good, but I heard another tune “All Lips Go Blue” that was a little more true to their better sound. They’ve always been more geared towards the female fans. At least Valo was a hunk back then. Someone get this man some Leipäjuusto to munch on.
There is an obscene amount of buzz around the new Daft Punk album. The lead single with Pharrell has been getting a ton of attention. You can check Pharrell performing the track in its entirety finally. Gotta admit it. Track is a banger. Disco is back baby. Need to locate my crazy gold medallion. MP3 download isn’t the live version.
Ghostface Killah was quiet for a short minute, but an unexpected new project with Adrian Younge is his latest venture. I thought him and Doom were supposed to have a full album together, but I’ll take this. He gets a few Wu-Tang guest spots, including INS, Cappadonna, U-God, and Masta Killah. That is some gangsta, evil artwork. Check out the new video for “Rise Of The Ghostface” with an appearance from RZA. Also super evil.
Frank Ocean drops some visuals for my favorite track off channel Orange. As expected, the new video contains footage of Frank traveling the world. I hope he doesn’t wait years to drop another album. His genius should be a relative frequent gift.
Goddamn, TNGHT. These dudes are goin’ in tonight at Starlight Ballroom. Wish I had the energy and time to just eat drugs and get wild on a random Wednesday. Hudson Mohawke, who signed with G.O.O.D. Music as a producer and I can’t wait to hear lay tracks with Yeezy, and Lunice go so fucking hard on “Acrylics”. Get all over this one. Have fun tonight you party animals.
Josh Homme and QOTSA brought out the Pearl Jam frontman for a little help on cowbell during “Little Sister” at this weekend’s Lollapalooza in Chile. Eddie Vedder helps out on the chorus and doesn’t skip a beat on that bell. QOTSA’s new album, …Like Clockwork, is due out in June on Matador Records.
Radio 104.5 announced their annual Summer Block Party series that takes place down at The Piazza in Norther Liberties each year. These free shows usually bring out a whole gang of people who have no idea who the bands playing are but want to enjoy some new music and outdoor drinking. More so the outdoor drinking. I’ll definitely want to be in attendance for the July 13th show that includes Cold War Kids and Bad Books. I’m surprised they wouldn’t space those two bands out considering they are the only real recognizable names other than Metric. More info to come for the final two dates. I hope this is something that continues for years to come. Hit the Read More section for the full schedule.
Back on January 20th, Diplo set out on a 4-show tour that took place all in one night, proving he’s the hardest working white dude in the music biz. Him & his team filmed the night where he hit Baltimore, Philly, Atlantic City, and NYC. I heard the show at Sound Garden Hall was wild. I bet attendees weren’t too happy in AC though, where he kept his set to only 20 minutes but got to peep some asses that were “made in laboratories”. I wanna see some of the lost footage from between each show. Check out Trap Hawk Downand hit the read more section to download the songs featured in the 7-minute film.
Due out on April 16th, Mosquitohas leaked a couple weeks in advance. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are always sure to not disappoint and with the first leak, “Sacrilege”, they blew me away. That cover art is some weird shit. I’m about to give it a thorough listen now. Happy fucking Easter kids.
Divine Fits performed a couple tracks on Jimmy Kimmel Liveduring the week and I’m just getting around to giving them a watch. They blessed us with a track fronted by each of their singers. Surprisingly, neither was a track I would have expected, but that’s just fine. I don’t give some of the later tracks off A Thing Called Divine Fits enough play.
